1-MINUTE RESUME FOR ZACH BRAFF

Like most struggling actors in Hollywood, Braff waited tables to make ends meet before landing the role of Dr. John "J.D." Dorian on the hit NBC sitcom, Scrubs (2001). His funny/heartfelt character became the center of the show, making Braff an instant T.V. star. But the former film student had higher aspirations than the small screen. In 2004, Braff released his first feature film (which he wrote, directed and starred in) to rave reviews, garnering him the title of "Indie It Boy" of the moment. He followed-up with The Last Kiss in 2006 and is booked with features for the foreseeable future.

5 Things:

1. He graduated from Northwestern University with a BA in film.
2. Zach attended the same high school as Elisabeth Shue, Andrew Shue and Lauryn Hill.
3. He's best friends in real life with Scrubs co-star Donald Faison, who plays Turk.
4. He won a Grammy in 2005 for Garden State, on which he served as the compilation producer.
5. He auditioned for the role of Drue Valentine on Dawson's Creek, which eventually went to Mark Matkevich.

Quote:

On Hollywood's initial response to Garden State: "Everyone said no. Everyone with a date book and a phone in Los Angeles said no."
