1-MINUTE RESUME FOR MARION COTILLARD
Raised the daughter of two theater-trained parents, Cotillard first appeared onstage at an early age in one of her father's plays. Although her career as a film actress began in the mid-1990s, it was her role as Lili Bertineau in Luc Besson's
Taxi (1998), and its two sequels, that pushed her into the public eye. Strong reviews followed her work in
Les Jolies Choses (2001) while her performance in Tim Burton's
Big Fish (2003) introduced Cotillard to American audiences. With an extensive resume in French cinema, she was chosen among hundreds of candidates to portray the iconic French chanteuse Edith Piaf in
La Vie en Rose (2007), a tour de force performance which has already won Cotillard a Golden Globe and an Academy Award nomination.
