Kim Basinger Biography

Basinger began her career as the Breck shampoo girl. She later posed for Playboy at age 17 and landed the Bond girl role in 1983's Never Say Never Again. A year later, the actress starred in The Natural opposite Robert Redford, which led to 1986's steamy smash 9 ½ Weeks, her first official leading lady role. But after 1989's Batman, nine relatively empty years would follow. In 1997, she would return to the silver screen with a vengeance, playing a sexy, mysterious femme fatale in L.A. Confidential, which earned her an Oscar. Since 2000 she's laid low, making about one movie per year.


1. In a business venture with her brother, she bought the town of Braselton, Ga. for $20 million, which she later sold. This caused a major rift in the family, and she didn't speak to her mother for nine years.
2. As an adult, she sought treatment for severe agoraphobia. She was once housebound for six months; as a child, her parents had her tested for autism because of her extreme shyness.
3. She dated Prince in 1998.
4. She fell in love with her co-star Alec Baldwin on the set of The Marrying Man; she had insisted that he chase down a dog that had been hit by a car — and he did.
5. She stopped eating meat as a child.
