Raised on her father's tea plantation in India, Christie became intrigued with the bohemian life of artists when her studies took her to England and France. She worked in theater but found her true passion in film acting, landing her first major film role as Liz in Billy Liar (1963). Superstardom and British pop icon status soon followed with her Oscar-winning turn as amoral model Diana Scott in Darling (1965). Her impressive resume includes such films as Doctor Zhivago (1965), Far From the Madding Crowd (1967), Petulia (1968), McCabe & Mrs. Miller (1971), Don't Look Now (1973), Shampoo (1975) and Heaven Can Wait (1978). Christie's recent credits include Troy (2004), Finding Neverland (2004), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) and her graceful, award-winning role as an Alzheimer's patient in Away from Her (2006).
