Jim Carrey Biography

Jim Carrey is yet another comedian imported from Canada. Raised by a poor family outside Toronto, Carrey made his mark on Hollywood in the '90s with a string of wildly popular comedies like Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and The Mask. As he's matured, Carrey has also tried his hand at dramas (The Majestic, Man on the Moon), with mixed success.


1. He dropped out of high school at 16 to pursue a stand-up comedy career.
2. Carrey was first noticed by Rodney Dangerfield at The Comedy Store.
3. He received a $20 million paycheck for The Cable Guy, a new record for a comedian.
4. In 2004, he spoke openly on 60 Minutes about his bouts of depression.
5. He's been inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame.
