James Caviezel Biography

After years of bit parts and unrecognizable guests spots, Caviezel was ready to give up acting, until director Terrence Malick called and cast him in The Thin Red Line (1998). The following year, he started to get buzz for his roles in Ride with the Devil and Frequency. But it was J.Lo who helped him break through to the mainstream. He played the pop-actress' love interest in Angel Eyes, which helped establish him as a leading man. But his religious beliefs put limits on his leading-man status. The devout Catholic refused to do on-screen love scenes with Ashley Judd in High Crimes because it conflicted with his ideals. The payoff for conviction: Mel Gibson cast Caviezel as Jesus Christ in his controversial film, The Passion of the Christ, which became one of the highest grossing movies ever, and made Jim Caviezel a household name.
