Ice Cube got his start as a member of the controversial Los Angeles rap group N.W.A. After leaving the group, he pursued a solo recording career and broke into acting with John Singleton's 1991 drama Boyz N the Hood, before co-writing and starring in 1995 stoner comedy Friday. From there, he moved toward action films (Anaconda), before starring with George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg in 1999 Desert Storm satire Three Kings. 2000 saw a sequel to Friday, and in 2002, he kicked off a new franchise, Barbershop. Since then Cube has done family comedy (2004's Are We There Yet?) and taken over an action franchise with 2005's xXx: State of the Union.
