Don Cheadle Biography

Although his family moved around throughout his childhood, Cheadle graduated East High School in Denver, Colo. before going on to get his degree in theater from the California Institute of the Arts. Stage-trained, Cheadle's first onscreen breakthrough came with his role as Rocket, a volatile gang leader, in Colors (1988). Hollywood really took notice, however, with his critically-acclaimed, scene-stealing and star-making performance as Mouse in Devil in a Blue Dress (1995). Other buzzworthy performances of his include porn-star Buck Swope in Boogie Nights (1997) and his Oscar-nominated portrayal of French Rwandan hotelier Paul Rusesabagina in Hotel Rwanda (2004). With his turn as both executive producer and star of the 2007 Talk to Me, Cheadle continued to diversify his impressive and already well-respected career.

2. After acting in Hotel Rwanda (2004), a film about the early 1990s Rwandan genocide, he became an activist to raise awareness of the mid-2000s genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan.
