1-MINUTE RESUME FOR COURTENEY COX
The youngest of four kids, Cox was a headstrong child who got her first job at 13 despite her genteel upbringing in an affluent home. Her parents divorced when she was 10, remarried different spouses, and suddenly she became the youngest of 13 siblings. As a teen, she modeled for young-adult book covers and first showed up on the radar in 1984 when Bruce Springsteen pulled her out of the crowd in his "Dancing in the Dark" video. Three years later, she landed the role of Alex P. Keaton's girlfriend on
Family Ties, but her career foundered until 1994. After the success of
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective opposite Jim Carrey, she was cast as one of six young people who do a whole lot of hanging out on
Friends.
5 Things:
1. She had a long-term relationship with Michael Keaton, who was 12 years her senior.
2. She was initially supposed to play Rachel on Friends.
3. She likes to fix houses and sell them; she hates shopping and collecting things.
4. She has called herself a control freak similar to her Monica character on Friends.
5.The inside of her wedding ring (and her husband's) is inscribed with the phrase, "A deal's a deal."
Quote:
On growing up in the South: "The South's very social, and I'm not
I was shy and people picked on me. High school was pretty brutal, so instead, I put myself on a strict program so I got out of school early and worked."
