Alec Baldwin Biography

A career in law was not Baldwin's destiny. He auditioned for NYU's acting program, and not only was he accepted, but he was offered a full ride. He graduated 13 years later in 1993, long overdue because he began his professional acting career almost as soon as he began school. There were the soap operas like The Doctors and Knots Landing, and the films like Working Girl, Married to the Mob, and Beetlejuice. In 1990, the actor was cast as Jack Ryan in the John Clancy film The Hunt for Red October, but declining to reprise the role cost him. His career foundered until 2003's The Cooler, and hit a recent high point with a recurring role on TV's 30 Rock.


1. He was involved in a well-publicized altercation with a paparazzo attempting to photograph his new baby; the result: a $4,500 fine for damage done to the photographer's broken nose.
2. His final thesis at NYU was a 65-page paper on Al Pacino and method acting.
3. He was briefly engaged to Northern Exposure's Janine Turner.
4. His interest in politics began at an early age, when he was his high school's freshman class president; he went on a short-lived pursuit for a career in law.
5. His three brothers, Stephen, William and Daniel, all act, while his sisters, Beth and Jane, do not.
